Down by the river
Near Walnut Grove, California
October 7–10, 9am–4pm
This four day, outdoor painting workshop is geared toward advanced-beginner and intermediate painters working in oil. There will be exercises, painting demonstrations, and plenty of time for you to paint. We will do some painting on the property, but will also be going to various locations nearby. Limited to a small group of 12 painters, with space for a few non-painting friends or spouses.
This will be held on a private farm property in the unique Sacramento River Delta area, which is primarily agricultural land. There is a labyrinth of waterways and man-made levees. The property is planted with vineyards, and is right next to the levee, with the river just on the other side. It’s a very unusual area, so different from the greater Bay Area, but not very far away. There are a handful of small, interesting, slightly funky towns nearby, including historic Locke, a couple of small ferries that connect to the mainland, old bridges, old barns and farm properties.
We will all stay on the property, with accommodations ranging from rooms in the farmhouse, to glamping tents, with the possibility of bringing your own tent or RV. I’m planning to stay in my small Airstream. There is a renovated barn that is often used for yoga retreats, which we can use for slide shows and other group gatherings. There is access to kitchen facilities if needed.
All meals will be provided, enabling us to maximize our painting time. Our hosts have generously offered the use of the pool, hot tub, bikes, kayaks and paddle boards during the workshop.
Instruction fee $800
Accommodations $40 – $90 per night
