Painting Adventure
Stonington, Maine
September 10-14
$750

This is a 5 day painting adventure with critiques, geared toward painters working in any medium. There will be a list of recommended painting locations provided, where you can go by yourself or with others from the group. The fee is $750 per person, with everyone responsible for their own transportation, lodging and meals.
The Painting Adventure is somewhat like a retreat, with everyone working a little more independently. You can paint whenever you want, and wherever you want. You can paint on your own, or join up with others. I will also be out painting, and you are welcome to join me wherever I am. I will give at least 3 demonstrations as well as 2 slide shows. There is no daily instruction as you are painting, but if I see you out painting, I will visit with comments. We will gather for 3 group critiques in our spacious indoor workspace. Critiques offer a different type of instruction, which I feel is very valuable. There tends to be a little more focus on composition in the critiques than there is in the traditional workshop format, but all topics can be addressed.
For both groups we have a nice indoor workspace in the event of poor weather. I will give at least 2 slideshows during the week. There are 4 restaurants in town, as well as a grocery store. We will have a suggested dinner location each night for those interested in meeting up. It's a small town and everything is very walkable.

I first stumbled onto Stonington many years ago when I was just learning to paint. It's a wonderful little town with a working harbor, a small downtown, and many beautiful old houses. Not as touristy as some of the other hot spots in Maine. There is a lot to paint in Stonington, though much of the scenery right in town involves architecture. Short drives in several directions can get you to more natural settings with few or no buildings.
There are no big inns or hotels in Stonington, so we'll be staying in a combination of motels, short term rentals and Airb&b's to accommodate the group. I can provide some info to help you with that, including a local motel where I have some rooms reserved. Once those are full, we'll need to rely on Airb&b's, etc.

It's pretty easy to walk around the downtown area and find multiple painting scenes, but I imagine everyone will probably have a car, and I'm sure we'll be driving to many painting locations, though they may be less than a mile away. Carpooling may be necessary on occasion, as some locations have limited parking. You could easily manage without a car, catching a ride with others in the group to painting locations when necessary.
