Stonington, Maine

July 24 - 27

$500

This is a 4 day independent study retreat with critiques, geared toward painters working in any medium. I will give at least one slide show and one painting demonstration, and we'll have a group critique every day. There will be a list of recommended painting locations provided, where you can go by yourself or with others from the group. The fee is $500 per person, with everyone responsible for their own transportation, lodging and meals.

I first stumbled onto Stonington many years ago when I was just learning to paint. It's a wonderful little town with a working harbor, a small downtown, and many beautiful old houses. Not as touristy as some of the other hot spots in Maine. There is a lot to paint in Stonington, though much of the scenery right in town involves architecture. Short drives in several directions can get you to more natural settings with few or no buildings.

There are no big inns or hotels in Stonington, so we'll be staying in a combination of motels, B&B's and AirB&B's to accommodate the group. I can help coordinate if people are interested in renting a house together, which I think would be great. I have reserved a small number of rooms at a local motel, so once those are full, we'll need to rely on AirB&B's. We can arrange for group breakfasts and dinners as desired. There are several restaurants in town, as well as a grocery store.

It's pretty easy to walk around the downtown area and find multiple painting scenes, but I imagine everyone will probably have a car, and I'm sure we'll be driving to many painting locations. Carpooling may be necessary on occasion, as some locations have limited parking.

Send me an email if you are interested. Limited to 12.
