The primary focus of this 4-day workshop will be how to convey the sense of strong sunlight in a painting by identifying, clarifying, and pushing the values. Exercises will be used to help simplify these concepts. Students will also work on achieving clean color in their paintings and utilize value patterns to aid in developing successful compositions. There will be discussions on materials, scene selection, and brushwork. During the workshop, Tim will create a demonstration painting each day and work with students individually on their paintings throughout the day. Tim will also present slideshows, using examples of his work and the work of others to illustrate key concepts.

We'll work primarily outdoors, on 2 or 3 private farms nearby, and may spend a half day painting in the downtown area. But if the weather is poor, we may be forced to work indoors from photos. I'm planning to begin at 9:00am on the 26th, and end at about 2:00 on the 29th. We'll paint from 9-12, then take a 1 hour break, and paint again from 1-4.

Fall color won't be peaking, but I expect there will be more than enough of color to break up the endless green you see during the spring and summer months.

Why Yellow Springs? I grew up there! It's a charming little town, and I never tire of visiting. I'll be staying with my brother, but I have reserved an entire bed & breakfast where half the group can stay, and have reserved 5 rooms at the hotel across the street. Both are a very short walk to downtown with restaurants, grocery store, etc. This will be my fifth workshop in Yellow Springs, and these farm properties are perfect for painting!

My sister-in-law Jennifer, will be managing sign-ups, and will also be painting with us.
